China’s State Council has approved a new city management plan proposed by the Sanya government, under which the 6 towns in Sanya will be integrated into 4 districts.

Sanya currently is divided into 2 management districts—Hedong District and Hexi District, which administrate 6 towns total. They are the Haitang Bay Town, Jiyang Town, Fenghuang Town, Yacheng Town, Tianya Town and Yucai Town.

After the implementation, the 4 new districts will be Haitang District, Jiyang District, Tianya District and Yazhou District.

To ensure a stable transition from the former departments to the 4 newly-established organs, the Sanya government will push forward further redefining the divisions of personnel, structures and functions for the 4 newly-organized departments.

The new plan aims to adapt to Sanya’s economic transformation and meet the requirements of urbanization and promote adjustment and optimization of the industrial structure and layout there.
