Fishermen in Sanya are getting ready to sail in south China’s Hainan province as a seasonal fishing ban in the South China Sea is scheduled to be lifted at 12:00pm this Friday.

The annual summer fishing ban started on May 16 and will end midday on August 1st. A total of 8,955 fishing vessels in Hainan were affected by this year’s moratorium.

In Sanya, many boats are planning to start fishing offshore from a port in Sanya on Thursday for the first time since their forced two-and-a-half-month break.
