After a month of fasting, hundreds of thousands of Hui people who live in the Huihui and Huixin Villages of Fenghuang Town, Sanya and from Qinghai, Gansu, Inner Mongolia and Xinjiang Hui Autonomous Region, flocked to local mosques in Phoenix Town to welcome the first day of the fast-breaking festival on July 29th, 2014.

The Fast-breaking Festival, which falls on the first day of the tenth month of the Islamic calendar, is one of the three most important festivals in the Islamic religion.

Ramadan is a festival of fasting and spiritual reflection. During Ramadan, the ninth month of the year on the Muslim calendar, all healthy adult Muslims refrain from eating and drinking from sunrise to sunset every day.

The Hui people in Sanya’s Fenghuang town celebrate the fast-breaking festival by slaughtering goats and cows and inviting relatives and friends to enjoy a delicious festival meal.
