According to the Haikou Tourism Development Commission, Haikou received a total of 202,900 tourists during the May Day holiday, among which the Haikou Meilan International Airport handled 109,000 passengers, up 21.9% year-on-year and the two ports (Xiuying Port and South Port) handled 93,900, up 2.7% year-on-year.
 
The city’s major A-level scenic spots received 225,200 tourists, a year-on-year of 24.4%. Self-guided tours and one-day tours in and around Haikou have proven very popular during the holiday.
 
The average hotel occupancy rate stood at 62.9%, a year-on-year increase of 1.1%, providing that the number of hotel rooms increased by 10,750 compared to that of 2014.
 
As a rising travel product, rural leisure tourism has attracted many domestic tourists to the scenic rural areas. In Qiongshan District, the number of tourists to the region reached 50,000 and the expenditure in leisure rural tourism hit nearly 400,000 yuan.
