A special group from Sanya’s Culture System Reform bureau released a cultural development plan (for the period of 2014-2015) that includes a goal for the added value of the city’s culture industry to account for 7.8% of the city’s GDP by 2015.

In recent years, Sanya has been striving to upgrade its cultural attractions so as to make them more attractive to tourists. At present, there are 4 regular cultural performances based in Sanya, such as the Sanya Romance Show and Haitang Show, attracting a daily average of around 5,000 people.

The proportion of the city’s GDP from the culture industry has continued to increase annually, which shows the great potential of the culture industry.

To help realize the new goal, the local government introduced 40 large-scale cultural projects at the end of 2013. These projects cover cultural tourism, conferences and exhibitions, entertainment performances, themed studios, animation and leisure rehabilitation.
