Haikou starts constructions of 2 wetland parks to protect mangrove forests
Construction on two wetland forest parks, the Shapo Wetland Forest Park and Baishuitang Wetland Park, is currently underway as a part of the construction of the Ecological Haikou, which is meant to help stabilize the area of mangrove wetlands and enhance the city’s ecological function.
Located at the junction of the East Highway and the Round-City Highway, Baishuitang Wetland Park will cover an area of 500 hectares. A large area of natural lakes and marsh wetlands, as well as the diversity of creatures there, make it a high value conservation park.
According to the plan, a wetland education center, tourism facilities, timber boardwalks, vehicle campsites and bird watching locations will be built within the wetland park. The park will become a relaxation hub, integrating science education and environmental protection and sightseeing while further enhancing the city’s ecological system.
The Shapo Wetland Forest Park will cover an area of 1,000 hectares. It will rely on the mangrove forests in Dongsai Harbor and the wetland resources of the East Coast, focusing on the protection of the mangrove forests and the diversity of creatures.
