An artificial beach nourishment project intended to improve the landscape and ecology of Sanya Bay is under way.

As the popular Sanya Bay has been ravaged due to seasonal typhoons and the influence of human activities, the local government decided that it’s time for a sand replenishment project to bring the sand back.

Four barges are involved in collecting sand from Yazhou Fishing Port offshore and pumping it through a 60-meter pipe to the beach.

The project is expected to take 50 days.

During the project, 225,300 m3 of sand will be pumped onto the beach in Sanya Bay and spread over about 2.6km of shoreline.
