An opening ceremony for the Sanya Intangible Cultural Heritage Day, which coincides with the 9th National Cultural Heritage Day of China was held at Dadonghai Square on June 14th, 2014.

To date, Sanya has had 7 items of intangible cultural heritage officially registered. The Li people’s firewood-gathering dance and the Yazhou folk song are on the list of the national intangible cultural heritage items.

7 other cultural heritage items, including the traditional pottery production of the Li people and the Sanyuan dance of the Miao people, are being added to the provincial list. The Li people’s handcraft of faking fire from drilled wood is the only item on the municipal-level list.

The traditional weaving, dyeing and embroidering of the Li Minority people and the Li people’s pottery techniques have also been sent in for a listing as national intangible cultural heritage items.
