Sanya has urged public institutions around the city to turn off their air conditioners and public lighting, as one of the activities arranged for the 24th energy-saving promotion week, which is running from June 8th to 14th, 2014.

The weeklong campaign has been launched with an eye towards avoiding more of the widespread electricity shortages this summer that have plagued many parts of the island.

Other promotional events include special discounts on energy-saving home appliances, which are on offer at many stores around the city.

“If the idea is rooted in everyone of us, our energy-saving achievement will be greater and our lives will be better”, said an official with the commission.

During the week, institutions in Sanya will publicize various policies and regulations to advocate a green office and low-carbon lifestyle with a series of activities like promoting green traffic and experiencing an energy-free life
