Three trainees have entered a training base in Sanya to earn their pilot’s license for flying helicopters.

"We are planning to enroll 10 flight training students each year and attendants can get a license after taking a 50-hour-long flight course that costs at minimum 220,000 yuan, passing a physical test and an exam from the Civil Aviation Administration of China.

"Sanya has a huge market for sightseeing low-altitude helicopters with a large number of enthusiasts, but there is a shortage of pilots," said Sanya Yalong General Aviation Company, which recently received approval from regulators to open the training institution.

The number of civilian helicopters in China reached 1,500 at the end of 2013, but currently only a total of 600 pilots are available to fly them in China.
