Sanya’s first Dan Cultural Festival kicks off in Dadonghai
In celebration of the traditional Dragon Boat Festival, the first 2014 Dan Cultural Festival kicked off in Dadonghai Square on June 2nd.
A grand blessing ceremony was held at the Dadonghai Square at 9am, with hundreds of well-wishers, fishermen and tourists attending the ceremony
The festival, whose purpose is to promote the food and culture of the Dan People, will run through June 6th
.Alongside the blessing ceremony, a Dan Cuisine Festival is being staged during the period. Traditional foods of the Dan people to taste at the Festival include salted fish pot, steamed glutinous rice rolls and fried fish cakes.
A variety of activities such as Dragon Boat Racing, a Dan Photo Exhibition and a Dan Cultural Forum will attract tourists to the festival.
The Dan People have lived around Sanya River and made their living by fishing for centuries. As a result, they have formed their own unique food culture, which has become an important part of Sanya’s culture
