Waterfront construction at Dadonghai triggers environmental concerns
Recently, ongoing waterfront construction at the Dadonghai Beach has aroused public concern as excessive tourism in recent years may cause potential environmental problems for Dadonghai.
Many citizens pointed out that the wall of beach sand on the construction site is vital in fighting against seasonal typhoons. However, clearing the beach along the shore has opened the door to coastal erosion.
The waterfront construction has been ordered suspended by Sanya’s law enforcement authorities.
Instead of leaving a big hole at the beach, experts are calling for the beach sand on the seashore to be rehabilitated to save the coastline from further damage.
Relevant departments have also set up an investigation on the matter to attempt to stop the destruction of the coastal environment
