Average temperature in Sanya hits record high in May 2014
The average temperature in Sanya between May 9th and 25th reached 30.5°C, the highest temperature ever recorded in this period since 1961, according to Hainan Meteorological Observatory.
From May 9th to 25th, the high temperature also soared in many other counties and cities on the island. During the same period, 7 counties and cities including Haikou, Chengmai, Lingao, Danzhou, Tunchang and Changjiang were recorded with 15-17 days of temperatures higher than 35°C.
The average temperature in Sanya and Haikou was 30.5°C and 30.1°C, respectively, 2.3°C and 2.5°C higher than in former years, according to the observatory.
The local weather bureau has warned the public to be careful of heat strokes as high temperatures are expected to continue to prevail in many parts of the island this week
