Sanya predicts 120,000-kw power shortage during summer peak periods
The local grid operator in Sanya has forecasted 120,000 kilowatts of summer power shortages across the city during the summer peak periods.
In order to ensure the stable operation of the power grid, power use restrictions have been in force since January to cope with the rising demand. As of this April, total power consumption in Sanya reached 750 million kilowatts, a year-on-year increase of 3.91%.
The grid authority said that power shortages this summer could be the worst in years. The summer heat that has scorched Sanya has nudged the city’s electricity generation to its highest ever level, touching 4.76 billion kilowatts as of May 16, 5.5% higher than the past record.
The local government is calling for the public to increase awareness of energy-saving to maintain the stability and security of the electrical power system in Sanya during peak consumption periods.
