The air quality in Haikou ranked third best among 74 major cities in China in 2014, according to a recent report published by China’s Ministry of Environmental Protection.

According to the list, the top 10 cities with the best air quality last year were: Haikou, Zhoushan, Lhasa, Shenzhen, Zhuhai, Huizhou, Fuzhou, Xiamen, Kunming and Zhongshan.


The top 10 cities with the worst air quality in China in 2014 were: Baoding, Xingtai, Shijiazhuang, Tangshan, Handan, Hengshui, Jinan, Langfang, Zhengzhou and Tianjin.


Haikou’s air quality index for 266 days in 2014 reached
grade I national air quality standards.

The ministry released monthly red and black lists of the air quality of the 74 major cities in China in 2014 in an effort to force local governments to pay more attention to the increasingly serious air pollution problem in China.
