Construction on the Hongsha Tunnel Road is expected to start at the end of this May, according to the Sanya Transport Bureau.

Located in the Linchun and Hongsha communities in Hedong District, the project is a major urban infrastructural project in Sanya, which involves a tunnel, approach, water supply, drainage and greening works. The road, tunnel and approach have a length of 2,438 meters, 1,800 meters and 638 meters, respectively.

After its completion, the project will effectively ease traffic pressure on the existing roads of Dadonghai linking Hongsha to the main urban area and perfect the regional road network.

The project, with a total investment of 470 million yuan, is expected to be completed in 2015.
