Sanya became the best city among 161 Chinese cities in terms of air quality, according to real-time data released by the Division of the Ministry of Environmental Protection on May 6th.

The city’s air quality index (AQI) rating was 16, which was considered the best on the list.

At 7 am on May 6th, the levels of PM 2.5 at Hexi, Hedong and Haitang Bay monitoring stations were recorded as less than 8 micrograms per cube meter.

Since January 1st this year, the Ministry of environmental protection has ordered 161 cities to apply a more comprehensive air quality monitoring standard and publish daily reports on 6 major air quality indicators including PM 10 and PM 2.5.
