Sanya is enjoying success in the early stages of the transformation of its tourism industry, having launched various new tourist products to lure visitors.

Apart from traditional sightseeing, a variety of tourism products for fun lovers such as low-airspace tours, anniversary vacation packages, honeymoon trips and cultural tourism activities are emerging as promising new industries.

As the focus has now turned from sightseeing to leisure activities and vacation packages, Sanya is able to host more tourists and its tourism revenue is continuously increasing.

During the 2014 Spring Festival holiday, Sanya has received 707, 400 tourists, with tourism revenue generated by it reaching 5.464 billion yuan, accounting for 72% of the island’s total figure.

While the city has become a popular tourist site, its infrastructure and service standards have not satisfied the public. Considering that tourism is the city’s economic backbone, the local government has implemented a series of measures to regulate the industry.

The long-term mechanism to clean up the tourism environment include personnel management, pricing restrictions on hotel room rates during major holiday periods and the levying of penalties and fines for malpractice.
