Construction of East Coastline Artificial Island to kick off in Haikou
With sharp conflicts of rapid urban development and increasingly crowded traffic space, the Haikou government has lately embarked on an ambitious plan of building a large artificial island on the east coastline in the city, reports 0898.net.
The construction of the Artificial Island project is expected to be located at eastern bay in Haikou, made of islands and the land.
According to the project, the total area of reclaimed land will reach 10 sq km, including sea filling area of 939 sq km and land area of 495 sq km.
Unlike the traditional way of land reclamation along the coast, this artificial island will be built upon the sustainable development concept of full sea utilization and environment protection of the marine ecology.
Full efforts will be made by the local government to turn the artificial island into a landmark coast resort of fashion, commerce, entertainment, tourism and an ecological island in the future.
Upon its completion, the artificial island is expected to attract 5 million tourists each year and create 20,000 jobs.
