Recently, the Sanya government announced that the first Dan Cultural Festival 2014 will be held in Sanya from June 2nd to June 6th.

The majority of Dan people are fishermen. Whilst not officially recognized as a minority people, they nonetheless have a very distinct and interesting culture.

In the past, many Dan lived their whole lives on boats and houseboats, never setting foot on land. Nowadays, most of their communities are perched along the coastline instead of being built entirely on water.

To help more people get to know the Dan people’s unique culture, the 1st Dan People’s Cultural Festival will have 5 main themed activities, namely a South China Sea blessing ceremony, a Dan People cultural theme forum, a Dragon Boat Race, a Dan Cuisine Festival and a Dan photo exhibition.
