The groundbreaking ceremony for the second phase of the Sanya Phoenix Island International Cruise Terminal was held on the morning of 10 April, 2014.

The second phase of the project will see the addition of an artificial island with a total land area of 474,000 sqm, which boasts a 100,000-ton level berth, a 250,000-ton level berth and two 150,000-ton level berths.

The current 80,000-ton level berth will be designed to accommodate domestic cruise ships and the other 4 cruise berths will be used for international cruise liners.

It is expected to be one of the largest international homeports in Asia when it goes into operation, which is capable of receiving the world’s largest cruise liner, the 225,000-ton Allure of the Seas.

As part of the important supporting facilities of the area, the signature 49-story 7-star hotel will cover a construction area of 134,000 sqm. The 208-meter-high project consists of a presidential suite, a 5-star hotel and an international conference center, involving an investment of around 5 billion yuan.
