To better regulate the commercial residential development market, a decision to strengthen the management on commercial housing types in Sanya was recently approved by the Sanya urban planning bureau on March 3rd.

Under the plan, from now on, construction of new projects with residential units below 80 sqm in size across the city will be suspended.

The new policy aims to promote the internal structural optimization of Sanya’s real estate industry.

In Sanya, many developers are keen on building small-sized property projects in the city that target well-off outsiders to buy winter vacation homes and investment properties. At the same time, the number of empty houses is increasing.

Currently, non-island home buyers have accounted for 80% of the total figure in commercial residential home purchases in Sanya.

Since there is no restriction on the proportion of small-sized apartments, the improper planning and lack of related supporting public services has led to many urban management problems.
