Booming cruise tourism expected to boost Sanya’s economy in 2014
The Sanya’s economy is to receive a major boost in 2014 with an increasing number of cruise liners visiting the city’s terminal.
An announcement on cruise booking by Sanya Phoenix International Cruise Terminal revealed that 190 cruise ships will dock in the city this year, bring around 160,000 passengers and generating 1.6 billion yuan to local economy.
In 2013, the number of cruise arrivals at the Sanya’s terminal was 226, with revenues generated by it reaching nearly 116 million yuan.
In recent years, a series of supporting policies, such as the cross-boarder arrangement, have been carried out to increase Sanya’s cruise tourism market, as well as enhance its competitive position as an international cruise homeport.
According to the responsible person of the Sanya terminal, there will be 134 cruise visits to the city in 2015 and is estimated to bring in around 2 billion yuan to the local economy as passengers spend money in tourist attractions. Besides, the port fees paid by shipping lines are estimated at 2.5 million yuan.
