In order to ease the traffic problems in the section of road near the Sanya Duty-free Shop, the Sanya government has determined that the existing duty-free shop will be closed in August and relocated to the Haitang Bay Duty-free Complex.

Since the offshore duty-free policy took effect on April 20, 2011, the Sanya Duty-free Shop has become one of the most attractive highlights among tourists. However, the limited surrounding area of the duty-free shop has caused severe traffic congestion, especially during major public holidays, leading to the urgent need for relocation.

The Haitang Bay Duty-free Complex, covering a total are of 770 acres, will combine the duty-free shop with other services, such as hotels, restaurants and entertainment venues, with an aim of creating a top international luxury consumption and experience center.

The duty-free complex will attract high-end international brands and other fashion labels, with pricing standards to match those of duty-free shops in Singapore and Hong Kong.
