No casinos allowed in the city, says Sanya mayor
Wang Yong, the mayor of Sanya, held a briefing at China's annual parliamentary meeting recently and declared that casinos will never be allowed to operate in Sanya city.
In 2013, the local government in Sanya shut down a casino bar that had been operating illegally in a 5-star hotel after media reports drew attention to it.
Wang said as an international seashore tourist city in China, Sanya will seek to develop more positive entertainment products to lure tourists and the government will tighten its supervision to crack down on any form of gambling activity in the city.
To maintain the order of the tourism industry, he said, more efforts will be given to improve transportation facilities, strengthen social security and purify the tourism environment in the near future.
