Sanya authorities destroyed large quantities of illegal touring ships and diving equipment on February 21, in an effort to bring attention to the government’s battle against illegal marine tourism operations.

The Sanya authorities said they have solved more than 13 cases of marine tourism operation violations, and 7 illegal diving sites were banned from any further diving activities.

A total of 31 tour ships were seized over illegal tourism operations during holiday inspections at major sea areas including Haitang Bay, Dadonghai, Sanya Bay and Yalong Bay. These ships were usually unlicensed, unregistered and unnamed, causing potential risks to the safety of tourists.

Local police will continue to launch a regular campaign to crack down on illegal marine tourism activities and call for diving operators to conduct fully legal tourism operations to promote the healthy and sustainable development of marine tourism in Sanya.
