Sanya was one of the top destinations for 2014 Chinese New Year holiday, according to Ctrip. com, a well-known Chinese travel website.

Other popular domestic tourist destinations included Xiamen, Beijing and Harbin.

The results were based on online search destinations covering air tickets, hotels, tour packages, cruise tours, car rentals, scenic spots and other tour products.

The study showed that over 60% of Chinese citizens took individual travels during this year’s Spring Festival and the number of tourists choosing to travel abroad surpassed those choosing domestic travel tours, accounting for 50% of the total figure.
