Sanya ranked first among the top ten cities in hotel reservations for 2014 Valentine’s Day, according to statistics released by Qunar.com, a well-known travel portal in China.

The other cities on the list were Shanghai, Hong Kong, Beijing, Xiamen, Guangzhou, Nanjing, Hangzhou and Wuhan.

Most cities have seen a 20% to 30% increase in hotel room rates. In coastal tourist cities like Xiamen, room prices remained the same, but in Sanya, hotels are offering rooms at lower prices to lure more visitors.

Statistics showed that popular hotel bookings in cities such as Sanya, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Nanjing and Chengdu were mainly above 800 yuan per day, while in Beijing, Xiamen and Hangzhou they were between 300 and 600 yuan.
