Throngs of couples rushed to register their marriages in Sanya yesterday to celebrate their love on Valentine’s Day, which also coincides with Lantern Festival.

Many couples believe that getting married on this special day will bring them good luck and a happy life.

Authorities at the Sanya Civil Affairs Bureau said quite a large number of young people choose to marry at festivals, such as Valentines’ Day, the Qixi Festival and Singles’ Day, rather than ‘normal’ days.

The bureau extended its business hours to deal with the nuptial surge.

Wanting to make the most of the opportunity, thousands of couples reportedly flocked to marriage registration offices across China to tie the knot on this special day.
