Sanya’s prowess in the national modern art market is growing following the success of the 2014 Art Sanya Festival and Poly & Sanya Serenity Marina New Year Auction.

The Poly & Sanya Serenity Marina New Year Auction concluded on February 5. The 2-day auction event, consisting of 4 special series’, has welcomed over 1,000 participants with a total transaction sales volume of 110 million yuan.

Insiders said Sanya is expected to be a poly auction base following Beijing and Shanghai due to its seasonal uniqueness as a tourist city, luring more potential high-end visitors in winter.

The auction covered more than 150 pieces of Chinese painting & calligraphy works and over 120 modern & contemporary art pieces including Tibetan beads, buddha statues, jewelry, clocks & watches, wines and handmade vehicles.

According to Zhao Huashan, the CEO and co-organizer of Sanya Huayu Tourism Co. Ltd., most of the large-scale exhibitions in Sanya are organized at the temporary institutions and he also revealed his plan to build professional art galleries or exhibition centers in the city to boost the modern art development in the city
