4 ship-shaped artificial reefs sunk off Wuzhizhou Island for marine ecology
In an effort to realize the sustainable development of the marine industry, 4 ship-shaped artificial reefs were sunk in the seawater offshore from Wuzhizhou Island on January 24th, 2014.
The sea ranch on Wuzhizhou Island is China’s first marine ranching demonstration area.
The 4 artificial reefs, weighing 120 tons each at a total cost of 1.5 million yuan, were reconstructed out of wasted ships. They have been placed 16 meters deep near the two fishing reef areas to the east and west of Wuzhizhou Island.
The installation of artificial reefs will increase marine breeding, releasing and enhancing the local marine environment in controlled conditions to ensure that people will have the opportunity to enjoy leisure fishing as well as other marine activities.
