China’s first commercial seaplane operated by Meiya Air, took off from the sea area in Sanya Bay.

Seaplanes, also called amphibian aircraft, don’t need a runway for take-off or landing and can fly about 1,500 kilometers before refueling.

Meiya Air, the country’s first licensed operator authorized by the Civil Aviation Administration of China in May 2013 to offer amphibious air services, currently owns two seaplanes, which are being put into commercial operation in Sanya.

Meiya Air is offering 19 air travel routes for international and domestic tourists in Sanya, mainly including tours of Hainan Island, the western Sanya tour, the eastern Sanya tour and low-altitude tourism for the Xisha islands.

Aside from air travel, Meiya Air’s two seaplanes will also be capable of being used for other purposes, such as marine emergency rescues.
