Sanya is going to focus on its green space expansion, aiming to build itself into a national ecology garden city, according to Sanya’s urban green space system plan for 2011-2020, which was released to the public at a Sanya municipal government executive meeting on January 22nd, 2014.

The total planning area covers 1919.6 square kilometers, with a total planned population of 950,000 people.

Under the plan, the green density of Sanya downtown (including Phoenix Town and Jiyang Town) and the townships will be 45% and 38%, respectively, and the per capita park green area of Sanya downtown and of the central-towns will be 19.48 square meters per person and more than 14 square meters, respectively, by 2020.

The space structure of the urban greenway system consists of four landscape belts covering the coastal ecological landscape belt and the landscape corridors of the rural tourism area, folk cultures area, and the surrounding mountains and water.
