The current infrastructure of the Sanya Phoenix Island International Cruise Terminal is considered a bottleneck to the fast growing cruise industry as the city is planning to build itself into a popular luxury cruise destination.

The Itanlian super 5-star cruise Costa Victoria visited the Sanya Phoenix Island International Cruise Terminal on January 12th, 2014.

On January 12th, 2014, two large cruise ships, an Italian super 5-star cruise Costa Victoria and a HK-based Star Cruises’ SuperStar Gemini, simultaneously arrived at the Sanya Phoenix Island International Cruise Terminal. However, due to the lack of larger docks for the berth of two or more large cruise ships, one of the ships was unable to land passengers at the port as expected.

To resolve the problem, the ship’s tenders were lowered to ferry the 1,500 passengers ashore

Due to the lack of larger docks for the berth of two or above large cruise ships, one of the ships was unable to land passengers at Sanya Phoenix Island International Cruise Terminal as expected. The 5-star cruise ship Costa Victoria has lowered its tenders o ferry the 1,500 passengers ashore.

For the upcoming 7-day Chinese New Year holiday, 6 cruise ships are scheduled to call at Sanya Phoenix Island International Cruise Terminal, with 2 days expecting to see two large cruise ships berth in port simultaneously.

Sanya, home to China’s most luxury high-end hotels, has also been adopted by international cruise lines as their home port in China.

To make the city more competitive in attracting cruise ships, an expanded port with more berths to accommodate bigger cruise ships is urged to be built in the near future.
