Passenger fined for smoking on bullet train on Hainan high-speed rail
The bullet train travelling to Lingshui Station was forced to cut down its speed while railway staff and police dealt with the situation.
The woman, 27, from Changchun City of Jiling Province, was seized by the rail staff and police for smoking in the toilet next to the No.5 carriage.
Hainan railway officials reminded passengers that smoking is strictly banned on bullet trains because the trains have sensitive emergency systems.
The detection of smoke can shut down a moving high-speed train and even cause equipment breakdowns, according to railway officials.
This is the second time that an alarm was triggered by passengers smoking since the bullet train on the Hainan Eastern Ring Railway was put into operation.
A new railway safety regulation stipulated that anyone caught smoking on a bullet train will be fined between 500 yuan to 2,000 yuan
