More than 10 fishing ships were suspected of operating illegally in sea areas of Yalong Bay.

On January 5th 2014, several of Sanya’s authorities including the Municipal Transportation Bureau, Marine Bureau, Comprehensive Enforcement Bureau and Public Security Department jointly launched a specialized campaign to crack down on fishing ships operating illegal tourism sea sports businesses in Yalong Bay.

All illegal tourism ships in the sea areas were evacuated after law enforcement officials gave the owners serious yet sincere persuasions, only two of them, which were suspected of illegally operating in Yalong Bay, were detained for severe safety violations. If there are indeed any illegal operations, these kinds of tourism ships will be impounded and destroyed.

Meanwhile, all illegal gains made will be confiscated and the ship owners will get punished and fined over the illegal tourism activities.

A top offical at the Sanya Municipal Transportation Bureau suggested that hotels in Yanlong Bay should strengthen the management of their private beaches and sea areas to stop the illegal operation of fishing ships.

In addition, the Sanya government is considering providing more employment opportunities to local fishermen in a bid to better regulate the city’s marine tourism market.
