Sanya seafood stalls have vowed to stop price-cheating practices on the seafood market with the new agreement they signed on January 5th, 2014.

Greater efforts have been made by the local government following the exposure by several media sources of the seafood price-gouging that has tainted the beach city’s reputation as a paradise for tourists.

There are some 170 seafood stalls across the city, providing over 14,000 seats for seafood consumption. Chunyuan Seafood Square, one of the most popular places to eat seafood in Sanya, will improve its service quality for the upcoming holidays

In 2011, a seafood stall association was set up to offer guidelines to monitor the seafood market, which proved very efficient in cracking down on customer-cheating and overcharging.

In addition, the local government is planning to establish a blacklist system in order to foster the creation of credit management on the seafood stalls market
