According to Sanya deputy mayor Deng Zhong, the passenger throughput of the Sanya Phoenix International Airport is expected to reach 12.7 million this year, hitting 10 million passengers for the third time.

From January to November 2013, Sanya Phoenix International Airport received a total of 79,135 flights and 11.473 million passengers, an increase of 10.8% and 13.9%, respectively, over the same period last year.

In 2014, the amount of government subsidies for Sanya’s aviation market will total 250 million Yuan, which will greatly improve the development of the aviation industry in Sanya.

In addition, the third phase project at Sanya Phoenix International Airport is underway and expected to be completed by 2015, making the airport able to receive more than 15 million passengers a year, after its completion.
