According to the Sanya Hongtang Bay Master Plan, aside from the Sanya Hongtang Bay Theater, the Hongtang Bay resort will feature a new lagoon system, beachfront resorts, a vibrant town center and a landmark tower marking a new marina. 
 
The Sanya Hongtang Bay Theater project, which was approved in 2009, will soon commence construction in early 2014.

Aiming to further develop the native culture in Hainan, the Sanya Hongtang Bay Theater will be mainly used for a series of large-scale music dramas which have the Hainan cultural elements as the main subject matter.

After its completion, the project will be expected to be a new drawing card for the city of Sanya, and help to build the city into a capital of oriental musicals.
