Xiamen ranked 5th in China's top 10 distinctive leisure cities in 2013 in the honor awards of the “China Leisure & Urban Development Evaluation”.

Beijing led the nine other cities that were selected as "2013 China's Distinctive Leisure Cities." The top ten distinctive leisure cities on the list are, in order: Beijing, Shanghai, Yichun, Jingdezhen, Xiamen, Taizhou, Sanya, Liupanshui, Quanzhou and Luoyang.

The Leisure & Vacation Tourism Association of China and the National Leisure Standardization Committee, as well as other authoritative tourism institutes and famous companies, jointly launched the selection activity. The evaluation for the ranking covered 338 major cities in China, according to reports.

In addition, the evaluation also honored 10 cities as 2013 China’s Best Leisure Cities, including Changde, Hangzhou, Chengdu, Nanning, Ningbo, Yantai, Suzhou, Qinhuangdao, Mount Huangshan and Liuzhou.

The leisure-oriented tourism in Xiamen has developed into a comprehensive industry providing many services, including sightseeing tours, cultural experiences, health care, MICE trips, shopping, food and entertainment. It was also honored as the Most Romantic Leisure City in 2011.
