Haikou ranks 9th on list of China’s most suitable cities for walking
Haikou’s West Coastline
A recent report by the International Nature Resources Defense Council (NRDC) showed Haikou is very friendly for people who choose walking as a way of getting around the city.
Four criteria were regarded in the evaluation, including degree of safety, degree of comfort, convenience level, and policy and management efforts. Each aspect includes three specific indexes.
Haikou received 54.6 points out of 100 in the evaluation, which means it passed the test. Of the 35 cities evaluated in the report, Haikou ranked 9th.
A program manager with NRDC says in terms of degree of comfort, Haikou ranked 2nd, followed Hong Kong and Xiamen.
The most suitable places for walking in Haikou were determined to be West Coastline, Evergreen Park, Haikou Bay, Haidian Island, West Coast of Nandu River and Haikou Qilou Street
