A citywide recruitment of volunteers will start in Sanya this month, which is part of the volunteer recruitment project launched in Hainan to improve the traffic situation and raise awareness of "road civility".

The city is looking for its first group of 1,500 traffic volunteers.

According to the campaign, the volunteers are expected to promote awareness of traffic regulations at the main transport hubs and during the major yearly events including the Spring Festival travel rush, National Traffic Safety Day.

Starting from 2014, the recruitment months will fall in every March and December. The volunteers will get basic training to assist the traffic police and regulators to monitor and punish violators.

The activity is organized by Hainan Youth League, Hainan Police Bureau, Hainan Education Bureau and Hainan Civilization Office
