Typhoon Haiyan, the 30th and strongest typhoon to hit China this year, has caused economic losses of nearly RMB960 million in Sanya, local flood control authorities said on Tuesday.

Of the total economic losses, RMB510 million were direct agricultural economic losses and 230 million were direct fishery economic losses.

As of 15:00 Monday, the super typhoon had left 4 people dead and 7 missing in Sanya, and more than 280,000 Sanya residents had been affected, with 36,000 evacuated.

Haiyan made landfall in Hainan Province on Sunday afternoon, after wreaking severe havoc in the Philippines and leaving thousands dead.
