Local residents and tourists in Sanya have called for more public green spaces and forested areas.

According to the local greenery authorities, by the end of 2012, the public green area per capita in Sanya had reached 18.97 square meters, and the city’s green coverage ratio was 41.61%.

With the city’s development, many residents have complained about less and less green spaces including parks, public gardens and roadside open spaces.

Public green space is not only attractive to visitors, but it also improves residents’ quality of life as it provides the opportunity for people to exercise and enhance their mental and physical well-being.

To resolve the problem, Sanya formulated the forestland protection and utilization planning 2010-2020, which is aimed at increasing the per capita green space in its urban areas.

A restoration project for the green space in Sanya Bay was launched this year and green land areas expansion in major parks will soon start
