An international academic conference on the protection of Traditional Li Textile Techniques was held in Sanya on 15th October.

With the attendance of 34 experts and scholars from home and abroad, topics on the promotion and protection of the traditional Li textile techniques of spinning, dyeing, weaving and embroidering were discussed during the conference.

Wang Lu, the deputy party secretary of Hainan province, delivered a speech during the conference and expressed his hope that advanced notions and practical experiences for promoting and protecting Li textile techniques could be learned from the discussion.

The traditional Li textile techniques of spinning, dyeing, weaving and embroidering are employed by women of the Li ethnic group of Hainan Province, China, to make cotton, hemp and other fibers into clothing and other daily necessities

Li textile techniques were included on the world's intangible cultural heritage list by UNESCO in 2009.
