A diving club in Sanya was recently punished over an overcharging incident during the National Day holiday.

The diving club was alleged to have taken a Guizhou family visiting Sanya during the holiday to an illegal diving spot and overcharged RMB5,653 for a 30-minute diving.

Mrs Peng from the Guizhou family said they later found the prices offered by other diving clubs were much cheaper, and the place where they were taken to dive was not a legal diving spot at all. They thus made a complaint to local tourism department.

Sanya tourism department soon launched an investigation into the incident and later demanded the diving club to make a full refund to the family.

The diving club was punished for operation in illegal diving spots and overcharging.
