On October 13th, the Double Ninth Day of 2013, the annual Nanshan Longevity Culture Festival kicked off at Nanshan Cultural Tourism Area in Sanya.

At the opening ceremony of the festival, two centenarian couples selected from 18 centenarian couples in Hainan were invited to witness the group wedding of 66 new couples from Hainan Island and other provinces in the country.

An official from the Hainan Provincial Working Committee Office on Aging said at the opening ceremony, that Hainan boasts a total of 1,749 centenarians, and there were 7.51 centenarians per 100,000 population in Sanya, higher than the proportion of 7/100,000 required to qualify as an international longevity county.

To date, the Nanshan Longevity Culture Festival themed with “Calm attitude towards life, healthy lifestyle, exploring the secret of longevity”, has been successfully held for 15 years since 1999.
