The annual Nanshan Longevity Culture Festival is to kick off at Nanshan Cultural Tourism Area, Sanya, on 13th October, the Double Ninth Day of 2013, according to reports.

A number of activities including mountaineering and group weddings are scheduled during the festival.

The festival’s organizers said two centenarian couples will be invited to witness the group wedding of 66 new couples on the first day of the festival.

Meanwhile, people over 60 years of age and visitors who happen to be celebrating their birthday on the day will enjoy free tickets to the Nanshan Scenic Area.

As the only tropical coastal tourism destination in the country, Hainan is blessed with an extremely pleasant climate and good ecological environment. The province has been hailed as “longevity island” in China, as it boasts 53 centenarians per 100,000 people.
