Heavy rain and gales brought by this year’s 21st tropical storm Wutip heading towards Vietnam hit Hainan's southern coast on Monday.

 

The tropical storm was located at 140 kilometers southwest of Sanya, Hainan at 5 a.m. on Monday.

 

It continues to move northwestward at a rate of 20 km per hour, packing winds of up to 133 km per hour, and is forecast to make landfall over the coast of central Vietnam on Monday afternoon or evening.

 

Heavy rain and gales are expected to continue in most areas of Hainan on Monday and Tuesday. Ships and local people in Hainan have been ordered to take precautions.

 

It also warned of storm tides, with water levels expected to increase by as much as one meter from Monday to Tuesday in Guangdong, Hainan and Guangxi.
