Sanya issues safety alert after recent drowning accidents
Sanya marine department has warned swimmers to pay extra attention to the hidden dangers of swimming in the sea areas around the city after a series of fresh drowning accidents were reported in Hainan during the mid-autumn festival holiday.
A man named Chen Jinren was reported missing on 19th September after he and his brother Chen Zhengjing went to the rescue of a couple who had been swimming in the sea off Qingshui bay when the drowning occurred.
On 20th September, another man, who has now been confirmed to be Tan Shuhai, the founder and chairman of Wuhan Haitian Group, drowned while swimming in the sea area off Qingshui bay.
Tan refused to stop swimming in the sea area when security staff warned him to stop given the danger of the area, the China Daily reported as saying.
Sanya marine department has warned visitors to swim only in the safe swimming areas cordoned off by local marine departments, highlighting the dangers of rip currents in a number of sea areas across the city, especially the sea areas of Dadonghai.
